Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Engineers?

Updated: Feb 9

Have you used Autodesk or SolidWorks? How about MATLAB? These are tools used in engineering at all levels to design and test solutions. They have functions that not only reduce time and effort spent on projects but provides ready solutions like fasteners (bolts; screws; pins and washers) precise to common used manufacturing standards  and allows for the import of standard parts (Shock absorbers; wheels; shafts; gears and pulleys; etc.) provided by independent sources.

With the data that is already available from all the cars; phones; washing machines and airplanes that exist today, these platforms can put together machines of their own. With just a few lines and code and access to copyright data, AI that can design better machines is well within reason and reach. ChatGPT is already rumored to violate copyright material in the work it produces. This makes patent holders skeptical of the technology and surrendering access to their database. Without patents and copyright protection competition looks different. These restrictions ensure that one company enjoys the profits of their invention for longer times before competitors offer a challenge.

China is a place where copyright laws look different and provide a unique set of opportunities for profits. China is forced to produce for the globe since their population alone is not enough to sustain the overwhelming competition. This is why ‘Made In China’ is practically everywhere and China’s unemployment rate is competitive in relation to their population. The entire world is the lifeforce for China.

This copyright infringement has domino effects, some good and some bad. To date, the good outweighs the bad. Manufacturing uses a lot of energy. The rising production is forcing China to look for other sources and kinds of electricity generation, hence, fusion. In the process they are inventing new ways of improving production and the rest of the world will eventually catch wind of these ways and adopt.
